On the 24th of January, C4U researchers presented their work on building readiness towards a net-zero future through effective Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) strategies.
There is an increasing consensus that large-scale CCUS deployment is required to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. While the technological readiness level of CCUS is often noted as a concern, there is also an urgent need to take policy, societal and business readiness into consideration.
The CCUS policy debate in the EU and UK has yet to accommodate the intersectional dynamics between policy, business, and societal systems. Each of these systems comes with specific and interrelated challenges and opportunities to be considered in policy and decision-making processes in the first quarter of 2024. Responding to this context, the Horizon 2020 project C4U has developed a Readiness Framework to assess the policy, business, and societal readiness for CCUS deployment in the EU.
The event gathered a diverse panel representing academia, labour, technology development, and industry to discuss technological and societal developments around CCUS and how they co-evolve. We would like to thank our panellists Hannah Biro (Bellona Foundation), Marc Alexander (Nyrstar), and Marian Flores Granobles (ArcelorMittal) for their fantastic contributions to the discussion.
Thank you to CEPS for being fantastic hosts, and to our WP5 colleagues for making this event a reality!
